The FIVB Men’s Nations League for Volleyball will hold its fifth season in 2023. International volleyball tournaments for men are held every year. The competition is held in June and July. In Gdansk, Poland’s Ergo Arena, the pivotal game will take place. The overall strategy hasn’t changed, even though the final list of participating nations has. There have been a few minor changes made to the final participant list, though. Cuba’s rookies replaced Australia in this edition due to the results of the Nations League and Challenger Cup in 2022.
The 2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League match in Quezon City, Philippines, during Week 2 (Pool 3), saw the European champions Italy suffer the most welcome surprise of the tournament. The national team of Japan, one of the best teams in the Nations League 2022 so far, worked hard to add another victory to their tally, but it was a noteworthy one – against European champions Italy. The Asian team earned its third straight victory and a 5-1 record with a tenacious five-set victory over their opponent, who was supported by the majority of the crowd in a packed arena in Quezon City. This record is identical to each of the top four teams in the competition, which are France, Poland, Japan, and the USA, in that order. Italy’s losing streak of four games came to an end, and they now have a 4-2 record. Italian blocking effectiveness defeated Japanese serving power in the match, 14-2 to 14-3. With five aces, Yuji Nishida, an aggressive opposite hitter, scored a game-high 28 points for his team’s victory, and Yuki Ishikawa added one more ace to the total. Akihiro Yamauchi’s attack percentage was 72.22 percent (14/18).
The play shares similarities with the first in terms of structure. In the subsequent round, eight-team pools of 16 men’s teams will compete against one another. There are 12 matches in the pool stage between each team. Eight teams will then participate in the competition’s knockout round. All eight of these teams will have advanced to the semifinal knockout stage. The knockout round will then feature eight matches: the bronze and gold medal matches, four quarterfinals, and two semifinals.
The top-seeded team will play the eighth-ranked team in the quarterfinal matches, followed by the second-seeded team playing the seventh-seeded team, the third-seeded team playing the sixth-ranked team, and the fourth-seeded team playing the fifth-seeded team. A spot in the Final round will be assured for the national team of the country hosting the event. If the host nation doesn’t place in the top eight after the first round, it will play in the eighth spot.
