The eagerly awaited FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League 2023 is slated to take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. The tournament will feature 16 teams from four distinct confederations, all of which are vying for the opportunity to hoist the coveted championship trophy. Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States are the main rivals in the competition. The teams from Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Poland, and the Dominican Republic are the opposition.
The first phase of the 2023 Women’s Nations League will last three weeks and feature a grueling competition. The top eight teams from these preliminary rounds who finished first in their respective standings advance to the final round. Throughout the crucial portion of the tournament, these eight teams will face off against one another in a knockout format. At the tournament’s conclusion, eight total matches will be played, including four quarterfinals, two semifinals, and the bronze and gold medal matches. The top seven teams in the competition as well as the finals host nation will battle it out for the prized medals.
In the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Quezon City, the Philippines, Japan defeated China 19-25, 25-16, 25-23, and 25-12 for its eighth consecutive victory. Li Yingying led China with a game-high 27 points, and Japan’s Sarina Koga and Kotona Hayashi each scored 22 and 19 points. This time when the two Asian teams face each other, World No. 5 China will avenge their defeat against World No. 6 Japan on Sunday.
