The fifth iteration of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League will take place in 2023. An international volleyball competition for men is held every year. The contest will take place in June and July. The Polish city of Gdansk’s Ergo Arena will host the decisive match. However, the overall structure and the final list of participating nations remain the same. The final participant list has, however, undergone a few slight changes. Australia was replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition as a result of the outcomes of the 2022 Nations League and 2022 Challenger Cup.

Last year 2022 FIVB men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL), Yuji Nishida recorded a game-high 26 points as Japan overcame a set deficit to defeat China 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18). At the Nilson Nelson arena in the Brazilian capital Brasilia, the opposing spiker amassed 22 attacking points, three service points, one block, and 22 points overall. Zhang Jingyin, who finished with 15 points, was China’s top scorer.

What is the format of the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League?

The play’s structure is unchanged from the earlier version. The pool phase will feature 16 men’s teams competing in 8-team pools. Throughout the pool stage, each team competes in 12 games. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. These 8 teams will advance straight to the knockout round of the finals. Following that, eight matches—four quarterfinals, two semifinals, and the bronze and gold medal matches—will be played as part of the knockout phase.

In the quarterfinals, the top-ranked team will play the eighth-ranked team, followed by the second-ranked team playing the seventh-ranked team, the third-ranked team playing the sixth-ranked team, and the fourth-ranked team playing the fifth-ranked team. The national team of the competition’s host country will receive a guaranteed place in the Final round. If the host country fails to place among the top eight in the opening round, it will compete as the eighth seed.
