The fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League began its action yesterday. The Nations League is a yearly competition for international volleyball players. The tournament will take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. The decisive round will be held in Arlington, Texas, in the United States, at College Park Centre. Four volleyball confederations’ top 16 nations will compete in the VNL). It is one of the leading international indoor competitions put on by the FIVB, the organisation that governs the sport. There were some minor changes post which the final roster for the tournament was made. The changes resulted from the 2022 Nations League and the 2022 Challenger Cup. Australia was replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition.

Thursday will see Croatia and the Netherlands at the loggerheads in round 3. The Netherlands sit in the tenth position. While on the other hand, the Croatian side is in a perilous position based on their current position. Croatia is currently placed in the fifteenth position. Croatia and the Netherlands last met in the European Women’s Championships which took place after the FIVB Nations League. In the last encounter, the Dutch side thrashed the Croatian side. Croatia lost the game in straight sets by 3-0.

This time however a lot is at stake, especially for the Croatian side who are on the verge of elimination from the Nations League. Croatia will enter the match with a loss against Canada (3-0). The Netherlands will however be coming after thrashing Thailand (3-0). Thus to look at it holistically, Croatia has its job cut out. However, both teams are going to give their all.
