The 2023 Men's European Volleyball Championship will be the 33rd edition of the Men's European Volleyball Championship, organised by CEV.
The 2023 Men’s European Volleyball Championship will be the 33rd edition of the Men’s European Volleyball Championship, organised by Europe’s governing volleyball body, CEV. For the third time, the EuroVolley will be held in four countries: Italy, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Israel. The top three teams of the tournament qualified for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship as the CEV representative. The only exception was Italy who had already qualified as the current World champion.
Saturday will see Bulgaria take on Ukraine in the preliminary round of the CEV Men’s European Volleyball 2023. In the world rankings, Bulgaria is placed in the thirty-first position. On the other hand, Ukraine is placed in the fifteenth position. Heading into Saturday’s match Bulgaria is coming after showing a dominant display of performance against Finland (3-1). While Ukraine is coming with a defeat in a closely fought match against Croatia (2-3). The Ukrainians had shown tremendous resilience when they faced Croatia. Naturally, Saturday’s match can be broken down as the match between resilient Ukrainians and the dominant Bulgarians.
The drawing of lots was combined with a seeding of National Federations and performed. The four organizers of the tournament were seeded in the Preliminary pools. However, the finalists from the previous edition were drawn into different Preliminary pools. This ensured that the top teams would be separated from competing in the same groups. The organizers could select one team to join their pools. On the other hand, the 16 remaining teams were seeded in descending order in the number of cups which equals the number of Preliminary pools. The pointing system of the Men’s Euro Volleyball 2023 is a little different. For a 3-0 or 3-1 win the winner gets 3 points while the loser gets 0 points. However, in case of a 3-2 win, the winner will get 2 points while the loser will get 1 point. This has ensured an equitable distribution of points.
