Shuai Zhang and Cristina Bucsa are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Tuesday, August 9.
Shuai Zhang participated in this competition for the first time in 2011, but in Canada, she has never advanced past the second round. Her victory at the Lyon Open in March, her first in more than four years, disproved the notion that she could only triumph in China. Following that, she advanced to the grass final in Birmingham, where she was defeated by the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia. Then came a third-round Wimbledon appearance, followed by two consecutive second-round losses in Budapest and Palermo. Her time in San Jose was brief, though, as she was defeated by Madison Keys in the opening round.
Cristina Bucsa qualified for a major main draw for the first time in her career last year at the US Open, but she did not advance past the first round. She has since qualified for the Australian and French Opens this year, but has been eliminated. Although she is more frequently seen on the Challenger tour, she has made it a habit in recent months to make it through qualification tournaments in order to make the main draws of senior tournaments. That is exactly what she did this time in Toronto, defeating first the experienced Swede Rebecca Peterson and then her compatriot Nuria Parrizas-Diaz.
Shuai Zhang and Cristina Bucsa are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Tuesday, August 9. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
