Benoît Paire and Yoshihito Nishioka are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Wednesday, August 10.
Paire’s fall from grace this year is exemplified by the fact that he has not only dropped out of the top 100 for the first time since 2015, but he is now forced to qualify for tournaments like Canada, where he would previously have received an automatic invite to the main draw. However, after going nearly three months without a win of any kind, he was relieved to end his drought last week in Washington by defeating German Peter Gojowczyk in the first round. To demonstrate that winning can be just as addictive as losing, he defeated Denis Kudla of the United States and Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland in the qualifying competition to earn his chance against Nishioka.
Nishioka has had his own slump, but his ranking will soon rise dramatically after reaching his first final in two years in Washington on Sunday. He eventually lost in straight sets to Nick Kyrgios, but he can be proud of a week’s work that included victories over Jenson Brooksby, Alex de Minaur, and Dan Evans. That was, however, his first time progressing past the first round of an ATP event since March in Miami. His next goal is to become more consistent with his Washington form. Much will be determined by Nishioka’s ability to recover from his exploits in Washington. If he struggles to refocus, Paire may have the best chance of succeeding.
Benoît Paire and Yoshihito Nishioka are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Wednesday, August 10. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
