Zanevska advanced to her first year semifinal after defeating fourth seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The World No. 72 went up a break twice in the first set, but Sasnovich was able to pull level on both occasions. However, the Belgian earned a third break in the 10th game, giving her the first set. Zanevska competed in her second tough match in this competition. She had fought back from a set down to overcome Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round. She had a very easy second round match, defeating Alexandra Cadanţu-Ignatik of România 6-4, 6-1.
81st in the world Bernarda Pera extended her undefeated streak to eleven matches on Thursday, thrashing Katerina Siniakova in straight sets in the quarterfinals to advance to her second consecutive semifinal. Pera won her maiden WTA championship last week when she defeated Aleksandra Kruni in the final of the Hungarian Open. She won seven consecutive matches in Budapest, including two qualifiers, and maintained that momentum to Hamburg, where she reached the semifinals without dropping a set. Furthermore, in the previous two matches, she has not been broken even once. Following a win on Friday, the American, who was also a finalist in the WTA 125 in Karlsruhe, will seek to make it back-to-back WTA finals.

The 2022 Hamburg European Open will have five rounds of play both for the ATP and WTA competitors. These are the first round, second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 24, but the qualifiers will commence from July 16 for both the men’s and women’s categories.
