On Sunday, February 5, 2023, qualifying for the WTA Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open will begin.
Following the official draw event, which revealed intriguing match-ups for the first-ever permanent WTA 500 event to be held in Abu Dhabi, the stage is set for the opening rounds of the inaugural Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. The top seeds will learn their paths to potential glory and the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open will get underway. This week’s 2023 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, a WTA 500 competition, will include three Canadian athletes. Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, and Bianca Andreescu are all scheduled to compete in Abu Dhabi, with Andreescu being drawn in the main draw. Prior to being compelled to give up her match against Lesia Tsurenko on Saturday, the 22-year-old reached the semi-finals of a tournament in Thailand.
The top seed and World No. 8 Daria Kasatkina is one of three top-10 athletes competing. The 2023 Australian Open runner-up Elena Rybakina is seeded third, followed by Belinda Bencic. The fourth seed is 2021 finalist Veronika Kudermetova. Jelena Ostapenko, a past winner of the French Open, Bianca Andreescu, a 2019 US Open champion, Barbora Krejcikova, a 2021 winner of Roland Garros, and former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova are all contenders. Garbine Muguruza, a two-time Major winner, as well as Sorana Cirstea and Marta Kostyuk were given wildcards to compete.
Third in the world one of the most well-known athletes in the area, Ons Jabeur, was also scheduled to compete but withdrew from the contest. Sania Mirza, a doubles champion who will shortly retire, will compete with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, a close friend and regular partner. There are many in-form players in the draw, which will make for a number of intriguing match-ups over the coming days.

A 28-woman field will compete in the 2023 WTA Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. The top eight seeds in the competition are all ranked inside the top 20, topped by Daria Kasatkina of Russia, who is currently ranked eighth in the world. Aryna Sabalenka, the second-ranked player in the world, will not defend the title she earned in the first competition in 2021. The WTA Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open’s total financial contribution, including prize money, is $780,637. This is an increase of 38% from the $565,530 total reward in 2021. The prize money distribution for this year has not yet been verified.
