Richard Gabriel Cyr Gasquet, a French tennis player, was born on June 18, 1986. His career-high ATP singles ranking is No. 7, which he attained on July 9, 2007. He has won 15 singles matches overall on the ATP Tour. Among his top Grand Slam singles performances were his three semifinal appearances, two at Wimbledon Championships (in 2007 and 2015), and one at the US Open (in 2013). His highest placing in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 singles matches was second in Hamburg in 2005 and Toronto in 2006 and 2012. At the 2004 French Open, he and Tatiana Golovin triumphed in the mixed doubles tournament. He also won the men’s doubles bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics with his doubles partner Julien Benneteau. Gasquet is renowned for his elegant groundstrokes and one-handed backhand. Gasquet became just the sixth active player to reach 550 victories on the ATP tour in March 2021. With more than 580 wins, he is currently ranked No. 4 among players who are still active.
In the second round of the 2022 Geneva Open, Gasquet defeated top-seeded and World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Since beating then-World No. 1 Roger Federer in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals of 2005, Gasquet had never defeated a player ranked in the top two of the rankings. With this victory, Gasquet has now defeated a player ranked somewhere on the ATP Tour between 1 and 100. He defeated Kamil Majchrzak in straight sets in the quarterfinals before falling to Joo Sousa in the semifinals. At Roland Garros, Richard defeated Lloyd Harris in straight sets to win the first round before falling to Sebastian Korda, the 27th seed, in the second round. As of June 27, 2022, he was equal with Andreas Seppi for fifth place on the list of all Grand Slam appearances with 67 thanks to his participation in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. He beat Mackenzie McDonald and Joao Sousa in five sets to get to Wimbledon’s third round. He also advanced to the third round of the US Open, when he tied Philipp Kohlschreiber and Novak Djokovic for 68th Major appearance.
