Camila Giorgi (born 30 December 1991) is a professional tennis player from Italy. She reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 26 on October 22, 2018. She is Italy’s current No. 2 following Martina Trevisan. Giorgi made her Grand Slam main-draw debut at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships after winning her maiden ITF title in 2009. In only her second appearance at the Wimbledon Championships, Giorgi advanced to the fourth round. She debuted in the top-100 of the WTA rankings after a great run at the championships. The next year, she advanced to the third round of the Wimbledon Championships and reached the fourth round of her second Grand Slam, the US Open. Six years after her Wimbledon debut, she made her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal in the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. Giorgi made her WTA Tour debut in 2014, reaching the final of the Katowice Open before winning her maiden title at the Rosmalen Open. She earned her first major championship at the 2021 National Bank Open in Montréal, defeating former world number one Karolina Plisková in the final.

Playing Style

Giorgi is a baseline player with a high level of aggression. She prefers to take the ball early on the rise and has strong, flat groundstrokes. Her two-handed backhand is her most powerful groundstroke, with which she can hit wins from any position on the court. She hits the ball with unwavering power and is regarded as one of the tour’s fiercest hitters. To end points fast, she typically uses powerful serve-forehand combinations. She defeated world No. 6 Karolna Plková in the final to win her first WTA 1000 championship, the greatest victory of her career, and becoming Canada’s lowest-ranked champion since No. 80-ranked Serena Williams won the tournament in 2011. With this impressive run, she returned to the top 40 in the WTA singles rankings, climbing nearly 40 spots from 71 to world No. 33 on August 16, 2021.
