The Swiss Open currently sponsored by J. Safra Sarasin and called the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad and originally known as the Swiss International Championships is a tennis tournament held in Gstaad, Switzerland. Held since 1898, the tournament is played on outdoor clay courts. Between 1970 and 1989 it was an event of the Grand Prix tennis circuit and is now a part of the ATP Tour schedule as an ATP Tour 250 series event. The first edition of the tournament was played in 1915 at the Gstaad Palace Hotel and was organized in collaboration with the Lawn Tennis Club (LTC) Gstaad.
Pavel Kotov, ranked 122 (career best), qualified after beating Juan Ignacio Londero 4-6 6-3 6-2. Pavel has a 24-11 win-loss record in 2022, with a 15-6 record on clay. Pavel’s greatest season result was reaching the final of the Forli 3 Challenger. Pavel did not play in Gstaad last year and will not play in Gstaad in 2021. Juan Pablo Varillas, ranked 107, advanced to the qualifying round after defeating Andrea Vavassori 6-4 7-63. In 2022, the Peruvian had a 27-16 win-loss record, including a 25-13 record on clay. Juan’s finest performance this season was reaching the final of the Santa Cruz de la Sierra 2 Challenger.
