Joao Sousa v Alexander Ritschard will take on each other on Monday, July 18 in the first round of the 2022 Swiss open Gstaad.
The Swiss Open currently sponsored by J. Safra Sarasin and called the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad and originally known as the Swiss International Championships is a tennis tournament held in Gstaad, Switzerland. Held since 1898, the tournament is played on outdoor clay courts. Between 1970 and 1989 it was an event of the Grand Prix tennis circuit and is now a part of the ATP Tour schedule as an ATP Tour 250 series event. The first edition of the tournament was played in 1915 at the Gstaad Palace Hotel and was organized in collaboration with the Lawn Tennis Club (LTC) Gstaad.
Joao Sousa, Portugal’s number one, has already enjoyed some success in Switzerland this year, reaching the final in Geneva for the second time, only to be defeated in three sets by Casper Ruud. Alexander Ritschard got off to a fast start as well, sprinting out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set against world number six Stefanos Tsitsipas. But, just as he was about to pull off an upset, the Greek rebounded and won the match in four sets. Sousa has won both previous meetings between the two players. He won in straight sets on the Challenger circuit in 2012 and again five years later.
Joao Sousa v Alexander Ritschard will take on each other on Monday, July 18 in the first round of the 2022 Swiss open Gstaad. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 17 and conclude on July 23 this year.
