Jordan Thompson, a quarterfinalist in his debut last year, takes an 8-15 season record to this year’s Los Cabos Open. This year’s finest performance on the circuit for the World No. 114 was a run to the quarterfinals in Dallas. In any of the other competitions, he has not won consecutive main draw matches. At the Challenger level, the 28-year-old Australian won his eighth championship in Surbiton before reaching his 13th Challenger final in Nottingham and finishing runner-up to Dan Evans. Thompson’s drop in the rankings can be attributed to his lack of consistency on the circuit. He dropped out of the top 100 for the first time since getting into it in October 2018.

Yannick Hanfmann has been playing well lately, but now that the clay season is over, the question is whether he can continue this form on hard courts. Hanfmann qualified two weeks ago, beat Cristian Garin in the opening round of play in Gstaad, and finally lost in the round of sixteen. On the strength of it, the German had his greatest season performance last week by making it to the semifinals in Kitzbuhel. He defeated Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals for one of his three victories in Austria. He hasn’t played much on hard courts during his career, so he could have trouble when he makes his debut at Los Cabos.
