At the 2022 US Open, world number one Iga Swiatek will face former US Open champion Sloane Stephens in the second round on Thursday.

Swiatek’s recent performance raised the possibility that it would affect how she conducted herself at the start of the season’s last Grand Slam. However, the way she destroyed Jasmine Paolini in her opening act demonstrated the opposite. Even though there were brief moments during the match when it appeared that her serve might have problems, Iga Swiatek won 6-3, 6-0 in an hour and seven minutes. Her overall game was simply too strong for the world number 56. The world number one quickly built a 4-1 lead, and even though she later dropped her serve twice, it wasn’t enough to cause her to leave her comfort zone. Following her triumph in the first set, Swiatek easily defeated Paolini in the second, breaking the opponent a total of seven times to seal the match. It will be intriguing to see if Swiatek can maintain his recent form in round two after losing at that point in both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open.
Greet Minnen won the first set and gained a 2-0 lead in the second, giving her the appearance that she would easily defeat Stephens in their first-round match. Then, Sloane Stephens was able to put her problems behind her as she fought back and won the match in three sets. Stephens advanced to the second round of a competition she had won in 2017 by winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and eleven minutes. Even while Stephens hasn’t been in the best of forms since then, she has still made it twice to the third round and once to the quarterfinals. Given her start and the fact that she plays Swiatek next, this could have an impact because Stephens seems like she would need a minor miracle to deal the same punishment to the world number one as well.
Iga Swiatek and Sloane Stephens are scheduled to face one another in the second round match of the US Open 2022 on Thursday, September 1. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.

The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
