Iga Swiatek, the top seed, will square off against Caroline Garcia, the fifth seed, in the 2022 WTA Poland Open quarterfinal on Friday.
Iga Swiatek, the current world No.1, is enjoying a great year. She won five titles (all in the WTA 500 or higher category), one Grand Slam, and 37 consecutive victories to set a new record for the longest winning run in the twenty-first century. With a staggering 48-4 record, she leads Anett Kontaveit, who is placed second, by more than 3,900 ranking points. Swiatek’s most recent defeat occurred at Wimbledon where she was defeated by Alize Cornet in the third round. Iga is once again in her element now that she is back on clay (and subsequently the hard courts). This is evident from her swift victories against Gabriela Lee and Magdalena Frech today in Warsaw (6-3, 6-2).
Although Caroline Garcia, the 45th-ranked player in the world, has a record of 24-14, which is not quite as outstanding as Iga Swiatek’s, it is still a successful outcome. The 28-year-old has already produced her finest season ever in the previous four years’ worth of records. She has defeated Misaki Doi and Elisabetta Cocciaretto thus far in the competition, all in straight sets. Garcia has now played in three quarterfinals in a row on the tour, with the other two coming just recently in Lausanne and Palermo. In truth, Caroline has recently come back to life. Since winning the WTA Bad Homburg, she has improved her record to 8-3 while playing with stunning consistency.
Iga Swiatek and Caroline Garcia will face each other in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 WTA Poland Open on Friday, July 29. The WTA 250 competition is scheduled to start from July 25 and end on July 31 this year.
