Richard Gasquet and Dominic Stricker are scheduled to face each other in the Second round of the 2022 ATP European Open on October 19.
In his first-round match against the former world #3 Stan Wawrinka, Richard Gasquet only won two games in the first set, saved three match points (on service) in the second set, and rallied from a set down to win, 2-6 7-6 6-4. The Frenchman had recently experienced a string of discouraging defeats, so this was a significant outcome for him. He recently lost to Gregoire Barrere and Jurgen Briand at the Challenger level and only defeated Brandon Nakashima in Florence’s opening round last week, winning just four games.
Prior to travelling to Antwerp, Dominic Stricker lost to Rinky Hijikata and Nicolas Mejia at the Challenger level, and he wasn’t at his best when competing against Alexander Blockx and Nicolas Alvarez Varona in the qualifying rounds. Nevertheless, he improved against the world No. 34 Botic Van De Zandschulp in the opening round, winning 6-2 6-4. The gifted young Swiss player recorded a few quarterfinal finishes on the main tour in 2018, but both of his prior 2022 main-draw attempts at this level—against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Stuttgart and Albert Ramos Vinolas in Gstaad—ended in the second round.
Dominic Stricker and Richard Gasquet are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Wednesday, October 19. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP European Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
