Manuel Guinard and Geoffrey Blancaneaux are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on October 19.
For the second time in a row this year, Manuel Guinard qualifies for an ATP tournament’s main draw as a lucky loser. In Barcelona earlier this season, he fell to Hugo Dellien in the first round and Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the last qualifying round. He would like to perform better this time. The 26-year-old Frenchman made his main-draw debut in an indoor ATP event last week in Gijon after advancing through the qualifying rounds and defeating an underperforming Fabio Fognini.
This week’s ATP Antwerp main draw also required a lucky loser spot for Geoffrey Blancaneaux. He overcame a set deficit against his countryman Luca Van Assche in the last qualifying round. He then broke the tiebreaker early but was unable to maintain the advantage. The former Boys’ French Open champion has struggled with physical difficulties his entire career. This year alone, he has already had five retirements, including one at the Alicante Challenger this month. The 24-year-old has performed admirably to amass 40 victories and an ITF title in these ten months despite the injuries.
Manuel Guinard and Geoffrey Blancaneaux are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Wednesday, October 19. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP European Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
