Emil Ruusuvuori and Lorenzo Sonego are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on October 25.
After a strong performance on the indoor hard courts in Stockholm last week, Emil Ruusuvuori enters ATP Vienna. Before losing in the quarterfinal to eventual runner-up and top-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, he decisively outplayed Joao Sousa, Jiri Lehecka, and the in-form Frances Tiafoe. It was a much-needed outcome for the Finn child, who had been having difficulty progressing in previous months. He hadn’t won back-to-back main-draw matches since the ATP Washington tournament in August, and he hadn’t advanced past the semifinals on the main tour since Pune in February (2022).
After a surprise title-winning campaign in Metz last month, in which he overcame players like the defending champion Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Bublik and didn’t lose a set all week, Lorenzo Sonego re-entered the top 50 of the ATP rankings. The Italian hasn’t accomplished much this year, though, as he still has a losing record in 2022 (26/27), both before and after his title-winning run in Metz. He has played four matches since defeating Alexander Bublik in the Metz title match, losing three of them to Holger Rune, Bernabe Zapata Miralles, and Sebastian Baez.
Emil Ruusuvuori and Lorenzo Sonego are scheduled to face one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on Tuesday, October 25. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
The ATP Vienna Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
