Jannik Sinner and Aleksandar Vukic are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinals of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open on September 30.
Jannik Sinner, who was given a first-round bye, didn’t face a single break point in the match, but he broke his opponent once in each set to win 6-3, 6-4. The Italian served 10 aces and won 89% of his first serve points. During the match, he also hit 25 winners and made 20 unforced errors. The 21-year-season old’s record now stands at 44-13. While he has plenty of victories this year, he will be disappointed to have lost seven times in the quarterfinals. He only advanced past the final eight stages once, in Umag, where he went on to win the title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz.
After being outplayed by Fernando Verdasco in the first set, Aleksander Vukic of Australia came back to beat the Spaniard in three sets and advance to the Sofia Open quarterfinals. The World No. 144, who had beaten another veteran, Fabio Fognini, in the first round 7-6 (13-11), 7-5, needed an hour and 49 minutes to defeat the 38-year-old lefty 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Vukic was broken three times in the first set, but he recovered well, not facing a single breakpoint over the next two sets and breaking Verdasco once in each. The Australian will compete in only his second tour-level quarterfinal of the year. He had previously reached the last eight in Adelaide-2.
