After a successful conclusion to her visit to Flushing Meadows on Sunday, Katerina Siniakova received permission to launch her Portoroz campaign later than planned. Her greatest WTA singles performance in 2022 was a solitary quarterfinal showing in Hamburg. Jodie Burrage advanced straight to round two after crushing Aleksandra Krunic 6-4, 6-4 and winning 81% of her first serves in the process. Compared to the final qualifying match against Stefanie Voegele, where she repeatedly came within two points of losing, her performance was far more encouraging. Prior to this year’s grass-court season, the British player has no WTA main tournament victories.
