The entire two hours of Anastasia Potapova‘s opening round match against Claire Liu required her to exert a lot of effort. Diane Parry arrived in Portoroz after a mixed North American tour, losing to Wang Xiyu in the US Open’s opening round after reaching the semifinals in Granby. She had to come back from a set and a break down to win the first match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, against former top-20 player Donna Vekic, who put a lot of pressure on her. The Frenchwoman had an agonisingly sluggish start to the season, and it wasn’t until late May that she won back-to-back main draw matches at any level. Since then, she has advanced quickly to the third round at Wimbledon and Roland-Garros, had her first WTA quarterfinal appearance in Palermo, and won her maiden semifinal in Granby.
