To win her group and secure a spot in the semifinals, Sakkari defeated Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. In her final group match, she faced Ons Jabeur, the runner-up at the 2022 US Open and Wimbledon. In the opening set, Sakkari got out to a fast start, easily building a 5-1 advantage. After that, she experienced a little setback as she lost serve while attempting to finish the set. To win the first set, the Greek broke her opponent’s serve once again.

Garcia won her first match in the WTA Finals against Coco Gauff before falling to Iga Swiatek. In the last match of the round-robin phase, she faced Daria Kasatkina, with the victor securing their place in the final four. In the first set, Kasatkina took the first point to lead 2-1, but Garcia won the next three games in a row to take the lead 4-2. After that, the Russian won four straight games to win the set.

Format

The eight players at the WTA Finals 2022 have been divided into two groups, these are the Tracy Austin Group and the Nancy Richey Group. Each player will play one match against everyone in their group and the top two from each will make it through to the semi-finals. The top finisher of one group will face the second finisher of the other. The winner of those two matches will then meet in the final to decide who will win the 2022 WTA Finals crown.

Schedule

The group stage action of the 2022 WTA Finals will commence on October 31 and end on November 5. The semi-finals will be played on November 6 and the final on November 7.
