Andy Murray and Roman Safiullin are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on October 25.
For the first time in 17 years, Andy Murray goes back to Basel to compete in the Swiss indoor tournament for the second time. During his first season back in 2005, he played three consecutive three-set matches here and triumphed in two of them over Tim Henman and Tomas Berdych. Although the former world number one has experienced some difficult times over the past ten months, his overall level has been quite encouraging. In fact, this is his greatest season in terms of wins since 2016 (80/10). In 14 of the 17 tournaments he has played in this year, he has advanced past the first round, and he has 28 victories compared to 18 defeats.
On the main circuit this year, Roman Safiullin has been inconsistent. After an incredible start to the season at the ATP Cup and in Marseille (SF, as a qualifier), he went nearly four months without a victory on the main tour. The unpredictable but inconsistent Russian returned to winning ways on the main tour last month by making it to the semifinal in Tel Aviv, but a few days later she was defeated by the underdog Altug Celikbilek in the ATP Florence qualifying rounds.
Andy Murray and Roman Safiullin are scheduled to take on one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on Tuesday, October 25. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 23 to October 30, 2022.
The ATP Swiss Indoors will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
