Both players won a lot of net points, with the Frenchman taking 38 out of 53 and the Argentine taking 39 out of 62. Moutet, ranked 112, beat Stan Wawrinka in the first round after the Swiss retired with a 4-6, 6-7 lead (7-9). Moutet then defeated 21st seed Botic van de Zandschulp in four sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
