After recuperating from COVID, Cameron Norrie gave a lacklustre effort in his maiden game. The British No. 1 had a difficult last several weeks, and this is undoubtedly his most challenging part of an otherwise brilliant season. Holger Rune defeated South American clay court players Thiago Monteiro and Cristian Garin with ease, winning 7-5 6-2 and 7-6 6-1 respectively to secure his spot in the quarterfinals in Stockholm. The Dane had a four-match losing streak against lefties going into this week’s first round matchup with Thiago Monteiro, two of which came against Cameron Norrie. In his most recent two matches on indoor hard courts, the former Boys’ French Open winner made it to the quarterfinals. He lost a three-set match against Alexander Bublik in Metz last month and defeated Ilya Ivashka in Sofia, where he came in second place behind Marc-Andrea Huesler, the underdog.
