In the opening round of the ATP Stockholm, Jeffrey John Wolf kept up his impressive play on the main circuit by defeating the dangerous Alex Molcan in straight sets. The American’s performance demonstrated his self-assurance as he fell behind by a break in both sets but came back to win them both, 7-5 6-4. Since making his top-100 debut three months ago, the 23-year-old has played with a lot of confidence and belief, and this week in Stockholm, he has a chance to climb into the top 50. He placed second in Florence last week after competing in his first quarterfinal on the main circuit in Washington two months prior.
With a convincing victory in straight sets over Benjamin Bonzi, who hasn’t been playing at his peak since suffering an injury last month, Alex De Minaur made a strong first impression in Stockholm. The Australian took part in the competition once in 2018 and was defeated by Philipp Kohlschreiber in the opening round in a three-set match. The current ATP Atlanta winner is playing on indoor hard courts for the first time since Rotterdam (2022), where he upset Mackenzie McDonald, an American, in the second round before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas, the eventual runner-up, in the quarterfinal.
