Rublev and Rune will take on each other in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open on January 22.
In the 2023 Australian Open’s fourth round on Sunday, ninth seed Holger Rune will go up against fifth seed Andrey Rublev. Since losing in the 2022 US Open quarterfinals, Rublev has had sporadic success, winning 14 of his last 21 matches. He had previously won the Gijon Open, lost in the second round of the Paris Masters, and advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Finals in Turin before arriving in Australia. The Russian season in 2023 got off to a slow start, with early exits at Adelaide International 1 and Adelaide International 2. He has, however, returned to his consistent form for the Australian Open of 2023.
On the other hand, Holger Rune is currently in the best shape of his life. Since placing second at the Sofia Open in 2022, the youngster has won 18 of 20 matches. He had previously won the title at the Paris Masters and lost in the first round of the Adelaide International 1 before arriving in Australia. The Dane started his campaign by defeating Filip Krajinovic in straight sets in the first round. He then gained momentum by defeating Maxime Cressy and Ugo Humbert to advance to the fourth round. The World No. 10 advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career after defeating Frenchman Humbert in two hours and nine minutes with scores of 6-4, 6-2, and 7-6(5).
