Jurij Rodionov and Denis Shapovalov are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on October 24.
Prior to Filip Misolic’s entrance, Rodionov, who was given a wildcard this time, was Dominic Thiem’s longtime adversary for the number two ranking in Austrian men’s tennis. He has had a successful season in his own right, too, taking home two Challenger crowns in Switzerland and Matthuasen, where he is from. His singles ranking rose to a career high as a result. However, this will be his first time playing in the main draw since making it to the second round in Kitzbuhel.
Shapovalov has not had his finest year on the tour so far, and he will need a few more victories to guarantee that he will finish the year in the top 20 players. He did, however, show some signs that he might be rediscovering some of his previous form by making it to the Tokyo final before falling to American Taylor Fritz in three sets. He has competed in five senior finals overall, but he has only ever claimed one victory, which occurred in Stockholm three years ago. It did not go well last week when he returned to Sweden. He received a first-round bye and entered the competition in the second round. Alex de Minaur defeated him in the quarterfinals in straight sets.
