The Swiss Open currently sponsored by J. Safra Sarasin and called the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad and originally known as the Swiss International Championships is a tennis tournament held in Gstaad, Switzerland. Held since 1898, the tournament is played on outdoor clay courts. Between 1970 and 1989 it was an event of the Grand Prix tennis circuit and is now a part of the ATP Tour schedule as an ATP Tour 250 series event. The first edition of the tournament was played in 1915 at the Gstaad Palace Hotel and was organized in collaboration with the Lawn Tennis Club (LTC) Gstaad.
Lehecka appears to have a terrible draw, beginning with a difficult opener against Etcheverry. He has risen 11 positions in the Race to Milan and now ranks sixth among the best eight players from the ATP’s new generation. His main tour debut came earlier this year in Rotterdam, when he reached the quarterfinals as a qualifier. Tomas Martin Etcheverry is a good clay-courter on the ATP’s second tier, having won three Challenger titles and several semifinal and runner-up places in his career. His record outside of clay is likewise depressing, which explains why it has taken him so long to crack the top 100.
