American tennis player Alison Riske is seeded first at the 2022 Chennai Open and she will start her campaign in India against an unseeded Anastasia Gasanova. Riske recently participated in the 2022 US Open and put in quite a commendable performance. She went as far as the round of 16 after beating the likes of Eleana Yu, Camila Osorio and Wang Xiyu. However, she was beaten by 16th seed Caroline Garcia in the last 16. The Frenchwoman was in red hot form throughout the Grand Slam and beat Riske 6-4, 6-1.
Anastasia Gasanova was also part of US Open action but only in one qualifying match. The Russian was beaten 6-4, 1-6, 2-6 in her first qualifying match on August 24. Before the Grand Slam, Gasanova had taken part in the ITF USA 36A competition and went as far as the quarter-finals before withdrawing due to an injury concern.
