Eighth seed Chloe Paquet will kick off her 2022 Chennai Open campaign with a match against home favourite Karman Kaur Thandi. Paquet, seeded eighth in Chennai, almost made it through to the main draw of the 2022 US Open after winning her opening two qualifying matches. However, the Frenchwoman fell to a shock 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 defeat at the hands Linda Fruhvirtova in the final qualifier and had to bid adieu. Before the Grand Slam, Paquet had reached the quarter-finals of the QTA 125K competition in Vancouver where she was defeated by Greece’s Valentini Grammatikopoulou 3-6, 4-6.
Karman Kaur Thandi has not been able to make it past the qualifiers in any of the last three competitions she had taken part in. The last time Thandi was involved in the main draw of a competition was the ITF USA 35A in August where she went as far as the quarter-finals before being ousted by Peyton Stearns, Things have not been going the Indian’s way since and a WTA 250 competition on home soil could be the stage she needs to rekindle her season.
Chloe Paquet and Karman Kaur Thandi are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA Chennai Open on Monday, September 12. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 12 and end on September 18.
The 2022 WTA Chennai Open is scheduled to commence on September 12 and go on until September 18 this year. The tournament will have five rounds of play excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
