Van Rijthoven delivered an outstanding performance at Wimbledon, defeating the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili and Reilly Opelka.
Despite being in and out of competitive tennis since the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Tim van Rijthoven is one player to look out for at the US Open. The Dutchman will begin his campaign in the Grand Slam with a first round match against Chinese tennis player Zhang Zhizhen. Van Rijthoven delivered an outstanding performance at Wimbledon, defeating the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili and Reilly Opelka before being beaten in the round of 16 by Novak Djokovic. The Dutchman was later injured at an ATP Challenger event on July 21 and has been out of competitive action since.
Unseeded Zhang Zhizhen might have had to go through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw of the Grand Slam but over the past month, he has been in exceptional form. The Chinese tennis player took part in three ATP Challenger events ahead of the US Open and reached the final in all three. He was the victor in the tournaments at Cordenons and the runner-up at Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Trieste.
Tim van Rijthoven and Zhang Zhizhen are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29 at 8:30 pm IST. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
