Tuesday saw Rafael Nadal receive the ATP Fans’ Favorite Award for 2022 for the first time. Roger Federer’s 19-year run as the undisputed “Fans’ Favorite” — an accolade he has won every year since 2003 — came to an end with the 22-time Grand Slam victor’s victory. At the conclusion of the US Open, the Top-25 players in the ATP Singles Race were chosen by online fan voting, and Nadal became the fourth different winner, joining Gustavo Kuerten, Marat Safin (twice), and Federer. The Malloran said he was “very delighted” and that the prize meant everything to him after getting it. The 36-year-old now anticipates a better 2023 campaign, when he will defend his titles in the year’s first two Grand Slam events, the Australian Open and the French Open.

To win the Fans’ Favorite Award in 2022 makes me very delighted. I feel amazing about it. I can’t express my gratitude to you all enough for your support—not just for this honour, but also for the support I receive in every single city and at every single tournament throughout the globe, Nadal added. “That means everything to me, so I am eagerly anticipating 2023 so that I can once again offer a lot of good things. We’ll talk soon.

Warm up for 2023

Rafael Nadal will head the Spanish delegation at the United Cup, along with Paula Badosa, Pablo Carreno Busta, Jessica Bouzas, and others, as he gets ready for his 2023 season. The World No. 2 will likely compete against Nick Kyrgios and Dan Evans in the singles rubbers because Spain will compete in Group D with Australia and Great Britain for a berth in the knockout rounds. No additional event has been confirmed on his itinerary as of yet before his title defence at the Australian Open. The former World No. 1 will be expecting to do well at the Melbourne Major, which will also include players like World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, nine-time champion Novak Djokovic, and others. 2000 ranking points are on the line. Prior to that, the Mallorcan is also defending 250 points at the Melbourne Summer Set, although it is unclear at this time if he will participate in the competition leading up to the first Slam of the year.
