Iga Swiatek maintains that the claim that she demanded money from the Polish Tennis Federation in advance of the Tokyo Olympics is utterly untrue as per a report in tennisworldusa.org. Miroslaw Skrzypczynski, the former president of the Polish Tennis Federation, allegedly claimed that Swiatek demanded payment of 1.5 million PLN prior to the Olympics, according to Polish media on Monday. 21-year-old Swiatek made her Olympic debut in Tokyo during the summer of 2021. Swiatek was contacted by a comment from Dominik Senkowski and vehemently insisted that Skrzypczynski’s assertions were untrue.

“Before the Olympics, I had no direct contact with Mirosław Skrzypczyński, such words were never said, they are untrue,” said the world no. 1. “How much the Olympics cost me emotionally and how much they meant to me was seen by the whole world after I lost the match to Paula Badosa. I have never treated the Games as a way of earning money and money has never been and will not be a condition for my participation in them.”

Swiatek defeated Mona Barthel in her first-ever Olympic match, 6-2, 6-2. She, unfortunately didn’t advance very far in Tokyo, losing to Paula Badosa 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the second round. Aslan Karatsev and Elena Vesnina defeated Swiatek and Lukasz Kubot in the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles competition at the Tokyo Olympics.

“For me, the Olympics have always been and will be the greatest value in sport on so many levels that it is difficult to list them all, also because of my family traditions and the special role of my father in my sports development. Dad, who gave me maximum independence in the discipline from an early age. In 2021, even though it was the first season after winning Roland Garros, the Games were my absolute priority and I did everything to prepare for them as best as possible,” the Pole added.
