Jack Sock is certainly not the most popular or well-known name in the world of tennis, with the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray certainly drawing more limelight. However, Sock made his mark in the 2016 Rio Olympics, registering achievements that were historic, to say the least. The American became the only male or female tennis player to earn multiple medals following his stellar performances, in the prestigious tournament. Sock helped the US win a gold medal in the mixed doubles alongside Bethanie Mattek-Sands. He followed it up with a bronze medal in the men's doubles event featuring with Steve Johnson, resulting in a glorious campaign. Sock's consistency across formats is an indication of his ability to seamlessly transition across partners and adapt to any scenario in which he has been placed. The American held his nerve under pressure during the prestigious tournament, ensuring that his performances will go down in history for showing resilience when it mattered the most.
Sock's success in doubles further extends beyond the Olympics, with the American recording 14 titles in doubles. The tennis star has won four grand slam titles so far. One of those titles was recorded in the mixed doubles event of the 2011 US Open with the American partnering Melanie Oudin. The remaining three were registered in the men's doubles event of the Wimbledon as well as the US Open (2018). Sock emerged victorious in the 2014 edition of the Wimbledon while partnering Vasek Pospisil. The American struck a fine partnership with Mike Bryan to clinch a triumph in the Wimbledon Championships and US Open back in 2018. Sock further enjoyed relative success while participating in the men's singles event, winning four singles career ATP titles.
One of the key attributes in the American's gameplay is the fact that he is a complete baseliner. Sock enjoys both offensive and defensive abilities, though the former is considered his primary weapon. The tennis player further looks to utilise and exploit the topspin on his forehand to move the opponents far behind the baseline to control points. Sock's forehand and serve are his biggest weapons, with the American further utilising groundstrokes astutely to either overpower opponents from the baseline or attempt to register a winner. The tennis player has also developed a positive mentality over the years as shared in an interview with TGIM.
"Maximize every day. Keep your faith. Pray about things, and keep your head up as much as possible. As hard as it is sometimes, stay as positive as you can. Keep an open mind. Any opportunity you get is what you make of it. Some of the biggest "storms" in your life will bring a new perspective and a positive outlook. Expand your wisdom and be coachable. Learn from those who have experienced and know more than you," said Sock.
“It feels great. Not only for me personally and for my wife, my family and my coach, all the people around me. We love it. But even more, I like to silence the haters a little bit. I got a lot of doubt and a lot of hate, which is part of sports, but it definitely feels good to shut them up a little bit,” he added in an interaction with atptour.com.
