The first match of the 2022 Laver Cup will see US tennis player Jack Sock take on Norway’s Casper Ruud. Ruud was one of the finalists in the US Open earlier this month where he beat the likes of Karen Khachanov, Matteo Berrettini, Tommy Paul, Tim van Rijthoven and others. However, in the final against Carlos Alcaraz, the Norwegian failed to deliver as he lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 (1-7), 3-6. Ruud had taken part in the Swiss Open in July, which was the last competition he won. The Norwegian had beaten Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in the final to lift the crown.
Jack Sock’s US Open campaign was underwhelming to say the least. The American had to withdraw from the competition after playing three sets in the first round against Diego Schwartzman due to an injury concern. Sock’s last title victory came as a doubles crown when he won the Citi Open with Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios. The duo beat Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek in the final 7-5, 6-4.
Casper Ruud will take on Jack Sock on Friday, September 23 in the first singles match of the 2022 Laver Cup. The tentative timing of the match is 1 pm BST or 5:30 pm IST. The tournament is scheduled to be held from September 23 to September 25.
