Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 WTA Guadalajara Open on October 19.
Jessica Pegula, who is currently ranked World No. 5, is on cloud nine. She had a fantastic season, finishing with a 37-18 record, a career-high ranking, and over $3 million in prize money. Her accomplishments include three Grand Slam quarterfinals, two WTA 1000 semifinals, and a Madrid Open runner-up trophy. Jessica has been absolutely brilliant on the doubles circuit as well, with five titles and one runner-up medal from the French Open. Pegula has been one of the year’s most consistent performers, and she will compete in the WTA Finals later this month. She arrived in Guadalajara fresh off a semifinal appearance in San Diego, where she was defeated by Iga Swiatek. Previously, the 28-year-old had advanced to the final rounds in New York, Cincinnati, and Toronto.Â
Elena Rybakina is having a fantastic season, improving to 39-19 after a straight-set win over Karolina Pliskova in round one here. She is currently ranked No. 24 in the world, a position that could have been much higher had the points from her Wimbledon title been counted. The 23-year-old Kazakh is a formidable opponent, as evidenced by her ability to play deft strokes. In addition to the SW19 trophy, Rybakina finished second in Adelaide and Slovenia Open. Her most recent tournament was in Ostrava, where she reached the semifinals after defeating Madison Keys, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and Petra Kvitova. At the same time, Elena has been taken aback by a number of lower-ranked players this year, including Jaqueline Cristian, Anhelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko, and Clara Burel.Â
