Tommy Paul, the 36th-ranked player in the world, will play Ilya Ivashka, the 53rd-ranked player, in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Atlanta Open on Friday.

Tommy Paul extended his impressive run by easily defeating Korea’s Soon-woo Kwon in the second round after thrashing Jack Sock in the first round with ease. In a battle that lasted an hour and 21 minutes, Paul prevailed 6-3, 6-3, winning back-to-back games for the fourth time in a row. Paul has evidently gained confidence as a result of reaching Wimbledon‘s fourth round, and that was evident against Kwon, who is rated 76th. After trading early serve breaks in the opening set, Paul closed off the match by taking a 5-2 lead with his second serve break of the set. In the second match, Paul defeated Kwon twice—once in the first game and once more in the ninth game—to end the contest and advance to the round of eight.
Ivashka needed three more sets to defeat Steve Johnson in the second round and secure his spot next to Tommy Paul after being forced to play Quentin Halys in three sets in the first round. In his maiden main draw participation at Atlanta, the world number 53 overcame a set setback to advance to the quarterfinals. Ivashka pulled through to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in just under two hours. Johnson, who was the lucky loser as a result of Reilly Opelka‘s withdrawal, banged eight aces and triumphed in 75% of his first serve points, but he was defeated by Ivashka in this match. Ivashka boosted his game when Johnson served at 4-5 in the third set to stay in the match after breaking his opponent twice in the second set to tie the score.
Tommy Paul and Ilya Ivashka will take on each other on Friday, July 29 in the quarterfinal of the 2022 Atlanta Open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
