Alex de Minaur, ranked 30th in the world, will play Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, ranked 78th, in the 2022 ATP Atlanta Open quarterfinal on Friday.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Alex de Minaur wasted little time in defeating fellow Australian James Duckworth and securing his spot in the round of eight. De Minaur remained on court for 1 hour and 23 minutes to win 6-4, 6-4. This was his first match since reaching Wimbledon‘s fourth round. De Minaur broke his opponent in the fifth game of the first set, taking first blood. De Minaur broke back immediately in the ninth game before serving it out to take the lead after dropping his own serve in the eighth. De Minaur started the second set off on the right foot as he moved up 2-0 and held on to that break, clinching a straightforward victory from his second match-point.
Mannarino has won consecutive matches in straight sets to secure his spot in the final eight after losing to Taro Daniel in the qualifying and then entering the main draw as a lucky loser. Mannarino beat Peter Gojowczyk in the first round, 6-3, 7-6 (7), and then beat Andres Martin quickly in the second. Martin, who entered this tournament as a wildcard participant and is not among the top 700 players, shocked Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round and was anticipated to be a tough opponent. However, Mannarino defeated him in just one hour and 25 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals. He defeated the opponent 7-5, 6-3, breaking four serves to just one allowed.
Alex De Minaur and Adrian Mannarino will take on each other on Friday, July 29 in the quarterfinal of the 2022 Atlanta Open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
