The Austrian, ranked 145th in the world, had lost her second qualifying match against Leolia Jeanjean after winning her first qualifying round against Nadia Podoroska. She did, however, get a berth in the main draw as a fortunate loser and took advantage of it on Tuesday, progressing to the second round. The match began with six straight service breaks, with Grabher fighting back from a break down three times. She broke again in the eighth game and then served out the set in the next.

The 2022 Palermo Open will have five rounds of play for WTA competitors. These are the first round, second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 24, but the qualifiers will commence from July 16 for women’s categories.
