Stefanos Tsitsipas may have won more matches than any other player on the main tour this year, but his confidence must be at an all-time low considering how many key matches he has lost in the last ten months and how little influence he has been able to have in the major tournaments. In his past two appearances in Astana and Stockholm, where he lost in straight sets to former world #1 Novak Djokovic and underdog Holger Rune, respectively, the former world #3 has lost five of the seven final matches this year.

However, both of his ATP-level tournaments in 2022 saw him lose to Bernabe Zapata Miralles in Pune and Radu Albot in Marseille in the first round. The most recent main-draw victory for the Austrian wildcard in ATP competitions occurred here in Vienna 12 months ago when he entered on a wildcard and beat Gianluca Mager in the first round in straight sets. He presently has a 2-4 record at the ATP Vienna first round.
