Cameron Norrie and Kaichi Uchida are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Korea Open September 28.
Cameron Norrie has had a memorable season, and it may go down as the year that turned things around for the world number eight. Norrie’s form has been a little shaky in the last three weeks or so, and he’d like to get it back on track as soon as possible. Despite being a 7/10 favourite, the Brit fell to Andrey Rublev in the fourth round of the US Open. More importantly, he failed to take a set off his opponent. When Norrie returned to Davis Cup action, a lot was expected of him, but the Brit won only one singles match out of three, falling to Botic van de Zandschulp and Alexander Bublik.
Kaichi Uchida, who is currently ranked 163rd in the world, received a wildcard into the competition’s first round and, as luck would have it, was paired up with another wildcard participant. The fact that Seong Chang Hong has never been ranked higher than 343rd in the world was evident as Uchida easily won 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 24 minutes. In the entire match, Uchida faced three break points but saved each one while breaking his opponent’s serve three times—once in the first set and twice in the second—to easily win. This was Uchida’s first ATP main draw victory of the year.
