Taylor Fritz and Mackenzie McDonald are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Korea Open September 28.
While Taylor Fritz was not one of the favorites to win the US Open, he would have liked his chances of troubling some of the top players and making it to at least the second week. Instead, Fritz was knocked out in the first round by Brandon Holt, a relative unknown despite winning the first set. Fritz hopes to put his US Open disappointment behind him and concentrate on the rest of the season. His performance in the Wimbledon quarter finals against Rafael Nadal comes to mind. Or the final eight appearance in the Cincinnati Masters. Or his two titles at the Indian Wells Masters and Eastbourne. Can Fritz find the rhythm that will allow him to break into the top eight?
Mackenzie McDonald was on the court for nearly two hours, but he finished the job by outplaying Pedro Martinez in the first round of this competition. The American broke his opponent once in each set and saved all four break-point opportunities to win 6-4, 7-5 and advance to the second round. What will be interesting to see is whether McDonald can now win consecutive races in Seoul, as he did earlier this season in May. He had advanced to the third round. He had only won six of the next 16 matches he had played before arriving at ATP Seoul. And, when up against Fritz, the chances of scoring back-to-back victories are slim.
Taylor Fritz and Mackenzie McDonald are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Wednesday, September 28. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 24 and end on October 2.
