On Monday, the seventh-seeded Russian player Andrey Rublev will face British player Cameron Norrie in the fourth round of the 2022 US Open.
7th seed For the first time in his professional career, Cameron Norrie has advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open. The World No. 9 defeated Holger Rune, 19, in the third round 7-5, 6-4, 6-1 in two hours and twelve minutes without dropping a set after winning his previous two rounds in straight sets. In the first round of his competition, Norrie overcame Benoit Paire with scores of 6-0, 7-6 (7-1), and 6-0. In the following round, Norrie defeated Joao Sousa with scores of 6-4, 6-4, and 7-6 (7-4) to advance. In the first two rounds and twice in the third, the 27-year-old was only broken once each. In 2022, Norrie competed in four finals, taking home victories in Lyon and Delray Beach and placing second in Los Cabos and Acapulco. He also arrived at the U.S. Open in strong shape after making it to Cincinnati’s semifinals.
11 in the world In his tenth U.S. Open appearance, Andrey Rublev defeated Denis Shapovalov in a thrilling five-set match that lasted four hours and eight minutes in order to advance to the Round of 16. The Russian almost lost the match at 5-4 in the deciding set after he failed to convert three match points on his serve, but he eventually prevailed 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 7-6. (10-7). Rublev triumphed in a five-set match for the second time in a row. In the first round, he had defeated Laslo Djere 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4. In the second round, he defeated Kwon Soon-woo 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. Rublev, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2020, has appeared in five quarterfinals of major tournaments, including the French Open this year, but he has never advanced to the final four.
Cameron Norrie and Andrey Rublev are scheduled to face each other on Monday, September 5 in the fourth round of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
