On Friday, Jule Niemeier will face Anastasia Potapova in the quarterfinal round of WTA Lausanne open 2022.
Jule Niemeier defeated compatriot and qualifier Eva Lys, 6-4, 6-2, in 76 minutes by making all four of her breakpoint opportunities. After defeating Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon on Monday in two hours and forty-one minutes, she would be very grateful for a short day at work. She has already won on 19 clay courts this year, which is close to 22 from the previous year. The 22-year-old made her professional tennis debut in Strasbourg and Hamburg in 2021 with her first two WTA quarterfinals and semifinals. She then won her biggest victories at W60 Zagreb and 125K Makarska this year.
Irina-Camelia Begu was defeated by Anastasia Potapova, 6-4, 6-2, despite being down 1-4 in the first set. She did this by fending off the final 12 breakpoints. The 21-year-old has now outperformed her 2019 qualifying result in Lausanne with to the three-set victory over Lucia Bronzetti. It is only the third time in her 16 tournaments this season that she has won back-to-back main draw matches. The Russian began the year by losing to Veronika Kudermetova in the quarterfinals of the Melbourne Summer Set, and she later won her first WTA championship in Istanbul.
Jule Niemeier and Anastasia Potapova will take on each other on Friday, July 15 in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Lausanne open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 11 and conclude on July 17 this year.
