Last year, Jeffrey John Wolf won his first main-draw match in tour-level competitions in Acapulco. Making his tournament debut, he defeated seasoned competitors Andreas Seppi and Kevin Anderson in the qualifying rounds before defeating Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round after a three-set comeback. The American’s season and career have significantly improved since his ATP Acapulco campaign, and after making his top-100 debut in the second half, he elevated his game to new heights. He had a strong year-end, finishing second in Florence, and carried that form into the 2023 season, reaching the quarterfinals of Dallas and the round of 16 at the Australian Open.
In Acapulco over the weekend, Taro Daniel defeated Juan Alejandro Hernandez Serrano and Brandon Holt to avoid making his third qualifying exit in 2023. He will thus be playing in the main draw of an ATP tournament for the first time this year on Monday. In the past, the Japanese had a couple of unmemorable excursions in Acapulco. He failed in the first round of this tournament’s main draw twice, in 2018 and 2020, both times entering as a lucky loser,
