The eight seed Brandon Nakashima will face Jordan Thompson in the first round of the 2022 Atlanta open.
The American player Brandon Nakashima has picked up precisely where he left off on his beloved hard courts after receiving his first full-taste of the ATP clay- and grass-court seasons. The 19-year-old has been quite kind to us this week, covering his game spread against J.J. Wolf in the first round before taking Sam Querrey to the woodshed in the second round, 6-3, 6-4. This year, Nakashima is 6-7 on hard courts. He has an 83.0 percent winning rate in serve games and a 19.4 percent winning percentage in return games when playing on hard courts (132 service games won out of 159, and 31 return games won out of 160). On July 4, Nakashima lost in the round of 16 at Wimbledon to No. 40-ranked Nick Kyrgios, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7, 6-3, 2-6.
Jordan Thompson, like Nakashima, is rarely an easy out and likes Los Cabos’ rough, high-bouncing hard courts. Using his powerful forehand with high topspin to move the ball around the court, Thompson boasts one of the best kick serves in the sport. The 28-year-old Thompson is 6-7 this year on hard courts and is aiming for his first tournament victory on one in 2022. In the round of 32 of his most recent competition, the Hall of Fame Open, on July 11, Thompson suffered a 2-6, 3-6 defeat to Jason Kubler, who was ranked No. 102.
Brandon Nakashima and Jordan Thompson will take on each other on Monday July 25 in the first round of the 2022 Atlanta open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
