Lorenzo Musetti and Alexandar Lazarov are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open September 28.
Lorenzo Musetti, 20, is in the early stages of his career and has already won an ATP title. This occurred earlier this season in Hamburg, which is also indicative of his surface preference – the Italian prefers clay and has won 64% of his matches on it. When you compare that to his overall record, which has him winning only 38% of his matches, you can see why he might not have it easy here. Musetti did make it to the third round of the US Open, which was a surprise given that he faced David Goffin in the first round. However, the talented Italian was knocked out in the first round at Metz last week.
Alexandar Lazarov, ranked 334th in the world, was a 5/2 underdog in his first round match against Jiri Lehecka but won in straight sets to advance to the second round. Lazarov, who received a wildcard to the main draw, defeated Lehecka 7-5, 6-3 in a match that lasted just over an hour and a half. Lazarov, who had never won a main draw match before this, took an early break, and while Lehecka leveled things up, the home boy broke him again at 6-5. Things got a lot easier in the second set when Lazarov raced out to a 3-0 lead and easily held on to that lead.
Lorenzo Musetti and Alexandar Lazarov are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open on Wednesday, September 28. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 26 and end on October 2.
