Arthur Rinderknech had his greatest season yet on the main tour in 2021, but he was unable to win in Metz, where he made his main-draw debut the previous year. He lost all of his opportunities in a three-set loss to Marcos Giron in the first round. By making it to the final in Adelaide and the semifinal in Doha, the Frenchman continued his 2021 campaign. However, in the months that followed, fitness issues utterly ruined his season, and he has struggled even on the Challenger circuits.

For the first time this year, Jaume Munar Clar will compete at ATP Metz after a four-year absence. In his career to date, he has only won nine matches, suffered 21 defeats, and failed to get past the first round of the ATP Metz tournament in 2018. Despite this, the Spaniard has had arguably his finest season on hard courts (12/8 on OH), and he should be quite successful in the next indoor tournaments.
